The first interactive reality show focused on acting, Star Idol Malaysia has announced the Top 20 finalists after months of careful selection. An interactive programme where viewers determine the casting and plot development via 100% SMS voting, this show will air every Friday beginning 8th June 2007 at 9:30 p.m., followed by the Result Show every Saturday beginning 30th June 2007 at 10:15 p.m.
Throngs of individuals from all walks of life turned up hours before the registration even begun. From those open auditions, 100 contestants were short listed – consisting of 50 males and 50 females. In early April, they attended yet another closed audition at the ntv7 studios. From those tryouts, the final 20 lucky participants were selected to take part in the actual programme.
These 20 talented individuals are now being hosted in Carlton Holiday Super Suites while they undergo intensive training for their acting and vocal skills, body language as well as personal grooming. They will start meeting the public in road shows come 26th and 27th May at ntv7’s UrbanLive mall roadshow in Ipoh – so viewers and fans have the chance to get up close with their favourite thespians.
For the Interactive Variety segment of Star Idol Malaysia, these participants will be grouped in pairs and will go through thematic test of acting skills with a guest celebrity. Using SMS voting, ntv7 viewers can pick their favourite contestants (males and females). Each male and female contestant with the lowest numbers of votes will be eliminated. Viewers can vote by keying in “ starcontestant code “ to 36877 at cost of RM0.50. (Contestant codes can be found in the profiles of the Top 20 finalists)
Thereafter, the contestants will be reduced to the Top 8 – for the Interactive Drama. The top four male and female participants will be cast in a drama storyline. A single contestant will be dropped each week and once a contestant is eliminated, the character will “disappear” and as a result, the plot of the drama will always be revolving. Subsequently, the two remaining outstanding contestants will contend with each other in the grand finale for the coveted crown of the first Star Idol Malaysia!
